Insecurity: Niger Govt To Spend ₦478.9 Million On CCTV Surveillance

The government of Niger State, led by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, has budgeted the sum of ₦478.9 million to purchase and install CCTV surveillance systems to strengthen the state’s internal security.
According to the government, the money will also be used to purchase security gadgets for operatives around Minna, the state capital and the 25 local government areas of the state.
Naija News reports that the development was disclosed on Friday in Minna by the Commissioner/Deputy Chairman Planning Commission in the state, Malam Zakari Abubakar.
The official who spoke during a press conference on the 2023 proposed budget estimate breakdown earlier today said Governor Bello’s administration has also earmarked ₦38 billion for education, healthcare and social services.
He said that ₦16.5 billion was allocated mainly to the educational sector in the 2023 budget.
Breakdown Of The 2023 Budget
Disclosing further the breakdown of the 2023 budget, Abubakar said more than ₦628 million was allocated for rehabilitation of Technical and Vocational Colleges, ₦666.6 million for the rehabilitation of Ahmadu Bahago Secondary School and ₦443.3 million for the Whole School Development Approach.
He added that ₦548.2 million was allocated for the rehabilitation of 35 schools structure damaged by storms, ₦180 million for bursary allowance to students and ₦9.5 billion for intervention in primary education.
The commissioner also noted that ₦15.8 billion was allocated to the health sub-sector to execute key projects and programmes such as the renovation and furnishing of general hospitals Agaie, Minna, Mokwa, Bida, Kontagora, Suleja and Tungamagajiya at the tune of ₦6.4 billion.
He added that ₦5.5 billion was earmarked for the renovation of 10 primary healthcare facilities and other activities across the state and ₦200 million for the provision of equipment at IBB Specialist Hospital.
The commissioner said ₦383.8 million was earmarked for completing the sports centre adjacent to Bahago Secondary School, rehabilitation of Bako Kontagora Stadium and cons of open court baskets and volleyball at M.I Wushishi.
Naija News understands that Governor Bello had, on Nov.1, presented the 2023 budget estimate proposal of ₦238 billion “Budget of Consolidation and Transition” to the state house of assembly for approval.
The state’s latest proposed budget of ₦238.9 billion was higher than the 2022 budget of ₦225,1 billion by 2.96 per cent, with Economic Sector having a significant percentage of capital expenditure of ₦99.3 billion, representing 67.21 per cent of the total capital expenditure.
