Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has declared that the outcome of last Saturday’s by-election has affirmed his mandate from the September 21, 2024, governorship poll.

The governor made the statement on Monday when he received the Ovia Federal Constituency Member-elect, Gabriella Omosede Igbinedion, who visited the Government House in Benin City alongside Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa.

Okpebholo, in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Fred Itua, explained that the by-election results reflected the will of the people and showed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not take any mandate unlawfully.

Naija News reports that he said the victories recorded across wards in the election indicated the support of Edo people for the APC and its leadership.

He pointed out that candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were defeated in their wards and polling units, which, according to him, was proof that voters did not back them during the governorship contest or the recent by-election.

The governor assured that the APC would continue to work hard to win more votes for President Bola Tinubu and to deliver on promises made to the people.

Deputy Governor Idahosa used the visit to formally present his successor to the governor, saying that the by-election produced Igbinedion as the new representative of Ovia Federal Constituency.

In her remarks, the Member-elect pledged to use her experience in the National Assembly to serve the people effectively.

She thanked the governor for his support and promised to deliver projects that would improve the lives of her constituents.
