Governor Alia Bows To Pressure, Approves Benue State Assembly Resolutions To Suspend 3 Executive Officers

The Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has approved the resolutions of the Benue State House of Assembly to suspend three government officials.

The decision of the Governor was conveyed in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, following the resolutions passed by the House and conveyed to him.

According to the statement, Governor Alia has affirmed the suspension of the Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Maxwell Ogiri, for a period of one month.

Similarly, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mrs. Grace Adagba, has been suspended for a period of one month and the immediate suspension of the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission, Michael Uper, for the period of one month was also approved.

The statement further indicates that Governor Alia reiterates his unwavering commitment to the rule of law, due process, and the principles of separation of powers.

He commends the House of Assembly for exercising its constitutional responsibilities and assures the people of Benue State that his administration remains dedicated to transparency, accountability, and good governance.

The Governor urges all affected institutions to ensure seamless continuity of service delivery during this period and calls on the people of Benue State to continue to support the government’s efforts towards building a state that works for all.

Naija News recalls that the State Assembly members had accused Governor Alia of failure to address several important issues presented to him by the legislative arm.

They therefore resolved at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Hyacinth Dajoh, not to honour any request from the Governor until their grievances are addressed.

The Benue State lawmakers also rejected a request from Governor Alia for the screening and confirmation of fresh commissioner nominees, vowing not to consider any request from the executive arm until their grievances were addressed.
